The Complete Book
of Everyday Christianity

Edited by Robert Banks and R. Paul Stevens

Daily stuff for Christians

Many of us have problems deciding what we ought to think on modern issues, such as whistle-blowing, aging, taxes, and movies. It's hard to find guidance for our lives from God's Word when the world we live in is so different from biblical times.

The editors of The Complete Book of Everyday Christianity have succeeded admirably in giving us direction. Robert Banks and R. Paul Stevens combine decades of ministry, scholarship, church leadership, and parenting to select and edit wise biblical counsel from a large number of scholars, pastors, and others with expertise in particular areas. Many of the two-to-three-page articles have references at the end for further reading and validation.

A typical article defines the topic first, its importance, kinds, how it appeared in Scripture (if it did), and its meaning in the life of a Christian today. For example, under LAUGHTER, we find the following headings: The Best Medicine?, Kinds of Laughter, Laughter and Tears, The Laughter of Children, Jesus Laughed, and Laughter as a Glimpse of Heaven. Some topics are longer, such as EMOTIONS, by David Augsberger and Paddy Ducklow.

The articles are arranged alphabetically by title, but you can look up a topic easily using one of these three indexes: Life Activities, Interests & Concerns Index, Life Experience Index, and Subject Index.

Not a concordance, not a Bible dictionary, super for preparing a talk or pursuing a special interest, The Complete Book of Everyday Christianity helps you find God in the ordinary aspects of your life. Now is it Christian for me to go shopping? On page 886, it says . . .
