That's Easy
For You To Say

By W. Murray Severance

Biblical Names from A to Z

You know how hard it is when you're reading in your Bible study class, and suddenly you come to one of those biblical names with about 20 syllables. All you can do is stop or make a stab at it, probably wrong. Murray Severance continues to offer us help in the third edition of That's Easy for You to Say.

Severance, an authority on pronunciation of biblical names, gives the general reader much helpful information in the introduction to this book, starting with his recognition that no two people speak exactly alike and that his book is a guide, not the final authority.

The author goes on to tell us that for years he has been a follower of Frank C. Laubach and his campaign to educate the illiterate people around the world. Severance developed his method of pronouncing biblical names and terms similar to Laubach's and produced the CD-ROM version found in the back.

Do not use the alphabetical listing of names until you have read Severance's helpful key and code to pronunciation at the front. A good teacher, Severance tells readers in simple terms what they need to know, making a strong case for phonics. A simplified key appears at the bottom of each spread in the book--another aid to easy pronunciation.

The instructions printed on the CD-ROM are simple, but it did not open and run as simply as indicated. More instructions are needed. From Aalar AY uh luhr to Zurishaddai "Shaddai is a rock," this is especially handy for preachers, Bible leaders, and all who read the Bible in public.
