This novel begins nearly two years after the mass disappearances described in the first book Left Behind. Cities have been bombed, global war has erupted, and the Red Horse of the Apocalypse has begun a rampage. As Nicolae opens, the Tribulation Force feels great personal loss with the death of former member and pastor Bruce Barnes. The book ends with the earthquake (from Revelation 6:12). Readers will be tied to their seats throughout another action-packed and perhaps prophetic scenario.
LaHaye and Jenkins, who agree on eschatology, have developed an interesting approach to creating the Left Behind series. The original book was LaHaye's idea, but he's happy for Jenkins' help.
"Jerry is the answer to prayer," says LaHaye. "I was led to him purely at the Lord's direction."
Their collaboration starts as LaHaye gives Jenkins a chart of events for the period chosen for the book's action. Every 100 pages or so, Jenkins sends what he has written to LaHaye for approval.
The Lord may not be through with His leading for this series. Plans call for seven books in the series, one a year. The team plans a four-book Left Behind series for kids to be out next April. And a film is also in the works.
The ultimate reward for these authors is when they hear from readers. They receive an average of a letter a day and Jenkins responds to every one. "Nothing compares to knowing you have reached someone for the Lord," say the two.
