Help for timid believers

Review by Margaret Feinberg

Some people are born evangelists. They have no problems telling friends, coworkers, and even strangers about Jesus. They can weave religion into a conversation, explain salvation, and offer an invitation to accept Christ in a few short minutes. Then, there are the rest of us. We are afraid of being rejected, harming relationships, or not having the right words. Often we say nothing and miss the opportunity to share the wonderful news of Jesus Christ.

In Sharing Christ When You Feel You Can't, Daniel Owens gives Christians the information, motivation, and tools they need to effectively share Christ through their relationships with family and friends. As a full-time associate evangelist with the Luis Palau Evangelical Association, Owens believes that evangelism is a normal expression of our Christian faith and encourages the most timid of believers to begin reaching out to others.

The author explains that there are many reasons faith is difficult to share: fear of failure and rejection, lack of skill, and blindness to the need. He shows how we can overcome each of these barriers and begin inviting people into the kingdom of God. He promotes conversational evangelism rather than confrontational. Parent groups, youth sports, and community clubs open doors to new relationships and opportunities to share Christ. The book concludes with the basic facts of the gospel and asks each of us to answer the call to become fishers of men.

Filled with insightful stories and testimonies, Sharing Christ When You Feel You Can't is an easy and surprisingly fast read and a great source of help and encouragement for those of us who are a little timid in sharing the gospel.
