Few names are as well known in connection with study of the Bible as that of Charles Caldwell Ryrie. In the last two or three years, several new editions of the Ryrie Study Bible have been released, and all contain articles by Dr. Ryrie in which he makes clear the doctrine underlying his notes throughout the Bible. Looking at the articles, readers are immediately impressed with his theological order, starting with "Doctrine of the Scriptures" and "The Doctrine of God."
This same succinct but thorough approach to interpreting Scripture underlies all the annotations in the Ryrie Study Bible, Expanded Edition. They contain many biblical references as well as Ryrie's commentary. For example, at Proverbs 10:22, he states: "Real prosperity is a divine blessing, accompanied by neither anxiety nor trouble," and supports this by references to Ps. 128:2, Gen. 13:2, Deut. 8:18 and 2 Chron. 25:9.
Other helps in this edition include a table of weights and measures, a one-year Bible reading schedule, articles on the Apocrypha, Maccabean Revolt, and a Harmony of the Gospels. The words of Christ are in red. At the back are a concordance, timelines, and color maps.
Available in the NIV, KJV, and NASB translations, the Ryrie Study Bible continues to be the meat-and-potatoes version for lifelong sustenance.
