But many Christians rely on the world for answers to their problems. People will admit to being anxious, frustrated, worried, unhappy -- even angry -- but they won't call it sin. And yet, according to Henry Brandt and Kerry Skinner, sin is The Heart of the Problem, every human problem. "If you want relief, you can find it in the world. If you want a cure, only God can help you."
Brandt and Skinner say we can choose to neglect God and rely on our education, position, wealth, power, or authority for a sense of significance, that it's possible to become quite successful in this world without considering God at all. But eventually the emptiness of a life without God catches up with us. And only God has the answers to questions that keep us awake in the night; we dare not let personal sin or indifference separate us from Him. The authors encourage Christians to appropriate God's love, by confessing sin quickly and asking the Holy Spirit to take control.
Brandt, a marriage and family counselor for more than 40 years, and Skinner, active in the work of prayer and spiritual awakening, have enlarged the very popular material published earlier under this title for group study.
If you're troubled and want to get to The Heart of the Problem, Brandt and Skinner are a real help.
