This colorfully illustrated story Bible is not an adaptation or a paraphrase. It uses the actual Contemporary English Version text for the 260 short stories, presented in biblical order. Each story ends with a "prayer starter" and a memory verse. The CEV version of the text is both easy to read and understand, and it suggests a strong sense of mission in its choice of words. Many of the full-color illustrations by Natalie Carabetta, like the one of Peter and John being arrested in Acts 4, also impress readers with the urgency of the gospel message.
At the back is a subject list with appropriate references for stories in this Bible -- sort of a beginner's concordance. For example, there are eleven references for Holy Spirit, two from the Old Testament and nine from the New.
A quote from general editor Robert J. Morgan's Word for Parents tells you a lot about the Bible's mission: "Our spiritual vitality depends on two aspects of victorious Christian living: conversion and conversation. The first is a matter of heart; the second, of habit. When we meet Christ at the cross, that's conversion. When we meet with him behind the closed door, that's conversation."
The Children's Daily Devotional Bible is recommended for ages 6-11. Maybe 1997 is the year for your children to have their very own devotional Bible to start their walk with God.
