Useful Vessels

Review by Mary Jane Harrison

What does it take to be a woman who makes a difference with her life? Do you have to be perfect? What if you know you have a few chips and cracks?

Donna Partow asks for only ten weeks to convince you that you don't have to be perfect to be "a Vessel God Can Use." She makes the case that God accomplishes extraordinary things through ordinary people if they believe God can use them -- imperfections and all. Taking her theme from Isaiah 64:8 ("We are the clay, you are the potter, we are all the work of your hand." NKJV), Partow urges women to accept the unique way God has made them and to understand who they are in Christ.

In Becoming a Vessel God Can Use, she has written a terrific study book on the topic. The course is structured for use in short daily segments followed by questions. Full of tips for keeping God's Word before you (Post-It Notes are a big help!), Partow writes in a warm, personal but very organized way. You feel as though you are sitting across the room from her as she shares her honest and laughter-filled words.

Uppermost in keeping the right relationship with God is prayer, so "prayerful study" is not just a pat phrase when used about this book. At the conclusion is a "Note to Leaders" with special counsel for making prayer a major part of each lesson. Partow supplies a form for prayer requests and a prayer log along with a participant profile to be used for each member of a group.

These 50 lessons would be easy to use either as an individual or in a group. Partow leads with strong assurance in this excellent guide.
