God's Inspirational Promise Book answers that problem in a great way for all of us who try to recall Lucado's soul-seeking and reassuring words. Selections from all his titles for adults as well as his commentary in The Inspirational Study Bible have been gathered and sorted under ten appropriate headings with about eight selections under each heading. Each selection gives three brief Scripture readings from one of Lucado's books and a brief prayer.
Two things strike the reader: A quick survery of the contents page lets you know that Lucado has saved the most important for the last, "Inspirational truths about the Christian Life." Under this heading, Lucado has selected writings on the basic tenets of the Christian faith such as "sin," "salvation," "repentance," "discipleship," etc. Second, the small, compact size of the book makes it easy to carry.
Its padded cover and gold embossed pages suggest it is intended to be a gift, but it is also the kind of message that a reader wants to keep handy for personal solace and inspiration. The book fits easily into a purse or briefcase.
Very near the end of God's Inspirational Promise Book is a selection on Discipleship including a quote from The Inspirational Study Bible: "In our faith we leave footprints to guide others. A child, a friend, a recent convert. None should be left to walk the trail alone. It's the principle of discipleship." All of us can be thankful that Lucado has this view of discipleship and that he has shared it with us.
