Well, friends are always important, no matter what age a child happens to be living in. My Bible Pals Storybook makes this connection for kids from two directions -- Bible stories from the Old and New Testaments and contemporary stories about kids today.
Although the stories are separated into two sections, "Bible Friends" and "Friends of Today," all are treated in the same way: one page with the story, a few questions in "Talk with Me," a suggested Bible verse to repeat or memorize in "Say with Me," and a simple prayer at the end. Each story is illustrated on the facing page with a brightly colored appealing picture by Jodie McCallum.
The stories and activities are obviously written for parents to share with preschool children -- they're perfect for bedtime or devotions -- but the size and sturdy binding of this book suggest it's for young readers as well.
The contemporary stories are grouped into four categories: God's World, God's Gifts, What I Can Do, and God's Care.
My Bible Pals Storybook is the first of several books and games and resources that Standard Publishing is developing for young children. You may want to check out the six My Bible Pals Spinner Games, each teaching an important biblical value and illustrating the meaning of a Scripture verse.
In the meantime, we can keep sharing the Bible stories and helping our children make friends with the One who is a friend to all.
