A Popping Good Surprise

Review by Estelle Lamb

Sharing a delightful book like God Loves You with young children is one good answer to the question of how to help them know God's saving love.

The text by Arnold Shapiro is very simple with good rhythm and rhyme. Each verse is presented on a spread and always ends with "God loves you."

Illustrated in bold colors, the pages present a great range of lovable but not "too cute" animals from giraffes to ladybugs.

The big surprise is that many of the creatures move in this five-page, pop-up extravaganza. For example, the turtle goes in and out of his shell; the hippo dances; the orangutan opens his hand to reveal a ladybug. On sturdy paper board and well engineered, the moving parts are not too small or complicated for little hands.

All the animals come together in a riot of colors and sizes at the end to announce:

This book invites the "Let's read it again," response. Whether you share the book with your own little ones or give it as a gift, children will be learning a lot about different animals. Best of all, they are learning lessons with eternal value -- God loves them.

Estelle Lamb loves reading to her little ones in Lexington, KY.
