The central theme of this book is a call to the church to get back to basics. All our problems are actually people problems, and the most practical solution is to change the hearts of people by leading them to Christ. The Gospel is the tool to change America, and Americans had better get busy changing.
Palau defines being a Christian in three ways: (1)Walking in the way of life (of peace, purity, love, and obedience) that is found in Jesus Christ. (2) Enjoying eternal life. Palau believes God intends for us to live that life today. (3) Becoming God's child through the spiritual birth of repentance and trust in Jesus Christ.
Palau begins many of his chapters with personal accounts from his experience as an evangelist in 95 nations. From the secretary of the Communist Party in Ecuador to hardened militia leaders, assassins, racists, and gang members, he has seen Christ reach into people's lives and transform them so much that they went on to transform their worlds.
The Only Hope for America is Palau's giving the gospel message at his best. Few evangelists today have such a remarkable way of pointing out the true nature of our separation from God or of pointing us back to the way of salvation in Christ. Palau is a man of hope, and he imparts that wonderful feeling of hopefulness as we read his call to witness.
