Surviving and Thriving at School

"Splat. A fist slams you, shimmies and squooshes you this way and that, rolling you into a ball." Sound like a bad dream? Actually it's just author Kevin Johnson describing another "Playdough Day" in the life of a middle-school student. Using vivid word pictures like the one in "Playdough Day" Johnson's new book Could Someone Wake Me Up Before I Drool on the Desk? is geared at helping early teenagers face the pressures of school and friends.

In the process, Johnson also offers helpful advice on topics such as self-image, confidence, family, and Christian living.

Particularly appropriate for kids making the transition from grade school to middle school or junior high, the book contains 45 daily devotions for students. Johnson encourages kids to read one devotion a day, keeping their Bibles nearby for reference.

Each devotion is structured the same way, beginning with a brief story that centers on an emotion in kids, then offering a Scripture reference followed by some teaching on the topic, and wrapping up with a Bible quote from a key verse.

In this, his seventh early teen devotional book, Kevin Johnson's creative, slightly off-the-wall writing style shines as brightly as ever, making it a book that Kevin Johnson fans will certainly want to add to their collections.
